New Covenant of Right Relationship of Minister with the Holston Valley UU Board of Trustees: September 2010
I as religious leader of HVUUC and its called minister covenant with the Board of Trustees to uphold the high ideals of the Unitarian Universalist Principles and HVUUC’s covenants regarding congregational relationships. I will uphold my covenant with the Congregation as well as this covenant of relationship with the Board of Trustees.
I agree to honor the congregation’s past and not be bound by it in considering the future.
I agree to mutual effort, respect and appreciation of each of you as we work collaboratively toward the Common Good for this congregation and its ministry over any personal preference, I agree…
1. To seek and value your opinions and knowledge concerning church affairs,
2. To be respectful of your time, to arrive on time, to create timely updates on the ministry and to read trustee reports online before the meeting,
3. To direct and open communication: to talk with, rather than about you in the spirit of trust, and to welcome the diverse perspectives and styles each of you brings,
4.To exercise and encourage our individual and collective power to further the common good of the congregation by following through on commitments and practicing confession and forgiveness,
5. To assume good as my first response,
6. ·To speaking directly and authentically in difficult and all conversations,
7. To keep all members informed and to listen carefully to all,
7. To respect confidentiality, which is necessary for strong leadership and ministry,
8. To respect Board of Trustee decisions as ones made by the whole,
9. To work efficiently and effectively with the Board,
10. To uphold transparency in what I do.
