HVUUC 2010 Board Covenant and Ministerial Covenant of Right Relationship

As members of the HVUUC BOD, we covenant with each other to:

Self to Board

  • Be prepared with assignments and reports and be ready to discuss the board agenda
  • Be responsible for self-care and expressing our needs
  • Follow through on commitments
  • Practice confession and forgiveness


Board Member to rest of Board

  • Presume good faith.
  • Be respectful of the board’s time and be mindfully present when doing board business
  • Be mindful of and attentive to the expressed needs of our colleagues
  • Listen to each other
  • Speak directly and authentically to people, even those with whom we are having difficulty
  • Refrain from side conversations and e mails
  • Welcome the diverse perspectives and styles each of us brings
  • Work collaboratively with each other
  • Respect confidentiality at board meetings when requested
  • Exercise and encourage our individual and collective power to further the good of our congregation

 

Board to Membership

  • Presume good faith
  • Be open to and supportive of new leadership at all levels
  • Make our processes transparent
  • Not redo the work of task forces and committees
  • Take ownership of board decisions
  • Ensure that the transactions and decisions of the board are communicated to the membership.
