Pre K - Kindergarten (Enter through the door by the playground on the lower level)
Celebrating Me and My World - Natural religious development is found in the kinds of experiences that actually awaken wonder, that represent the thrill of a first discovery, that cause questioning and the beginning of philosophizing. This U.U. curriculum begins by celebrating the wondrous qualities of the children themselves and expands outward to the things and people around them. This program provides 4 and 5 year olds with experiences and opportunities to grow in their sense of trust and caring and to develop their self-identity and their sense of connectedness with all of life.
1st/2nd/3rd Grades (Meets in the Joseph Priestly Room in the REZ - religious education zone)
Spirit Play - This is an experiential approach to learning the seven Unitarian Universalist principles and what it looks and feels like to try and live them out in our daily lives. Children "play" with manipulatives while the teacher tells or reads stories. Each story comes from quality children's literature and is directly connected to one or more of our U.U. principles. Each lesson provides an opportunity for children to share their ideas, and participate in art, music or drama activities.
4th/5th/6th Grades (Meets in the Henry David Thoreau Room in the REZ - religious education zone)
Amazing Grace - This is part of the U.U. Tapestry of Faith curriculum and will be used during the first 16 weeks of R.E. It is intended to help students understand right and wrong and act on their new understanding. Its purpose is to equip them for moving safely and productively through these middle years, when they will be continually tugged toward both ends of the ethics continuum. Through their involvement in Amazing Grace, students will come to recognize and depend on their U.U. identity and resources as essential to their movement toward understanding, independence and fulfillment of personal promise.
Jr. Youth (Meets in the Susan B. Anthony Room of the REZ - religious education zone)
Traditions with a Wink!: UU Identity CUrriculum for Middle Schoolers - This program presents our UU traditions while at the same time adding the fun with which middle schoolers connect to issues and stay enthusiastic about their church experience. Traditions taught include:
- the way we create services of celebration and memory
- the place of Science and Reason
- the different ways UUs create community
- our tradition of good works
- our music and hymns
- our purposes and principles
- our roots in Judeo-Christian culture
- marking the passage from childhood to teen
Sr. Youth (meets in the James Reeb Room upstairs in the REZ - religious education zone)
Ethics in American Life - From September 11 through October 30, the Sr. Youth will look at a variety of situations they regularly face or soon will face and discuss the ethical ramifications of each situation. Following this series, the Sr. Youth will look at Unitarian Universalism and Controversial Moral Issues. The year will conclude with Playing With Fire: Creative Conflict Resolution for Young Adults.
