Voluntary Simplicity

The Voluntary Simplicity Group was formed in 2003 with hopes of answering the BIG QUESTION: "How much is Enough?" We meet to share ideas and offer support for living a life based on 'less is more'. In our monthly conversations we cover such topics as: Money, Time, Energy, Peak Oil, Growing Food and many, many other issues pertaining to a life lived sustainably and authentically. We meet on the third Wed of each month, in the REZ from 7-8:30 PM.

Since forming this group, we've covered a number of discussion/workbook courses like: Voluntary Simplicity, Deep Ecology, Sustainable Living and Menu for the Future. We did a year long book study based on Barbara Kingsolver's book, "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle" and have offered hands-on workshops such as How to Set Up a Rainbarrel, How to Compost, How to Set up Worm Bins, Organic Gardening, Raising Chickens in the Backyard and Winter Gardening. We've shared many local food potlucks at members' homes and occasionally take 'day trips' to places of interest: blueberry picking, the annual Ramp Festival, a local foods restaurant, etc. The group has a monthly newsletter and a yahoo discussion group so that we can share related info easily between meetings.'
Joining is easy, just show up at the appointed time. And showing up doesn't commit you, we get lots of 'visitors'

    FAQs:
Q: How Do I Get 'The Simple Times' newsletter?
    A: Email a request to: simpleintn@yahoo.com

Q: Are there dues or other responsibilities of membership?
A: No, this isn't a closed club. Anyone with an interest in simplifying their life is welcome at no charge, ever.

Opportunities to get involved: Lots! We try to have a booth at the annual "Earth Day Festival" at Bays Mountain just to let others know of our existence and as an educational tool. We also ask any member that would like to offer a workshop on something they are 'good at' to do so. The annual canning and food preservation workshop is an example of this sharing of knowledge. We'd like to do an annual worship service for our congregation too. We ask for anyone with an interest to submit articles to the newsletter or to show off their latest heirloom tomato or ... we're very hands on and delight in one another's attempts to live more frugally, simply and sustainably.
